I love my slow cooker (that is, until I discovered that it got terribly dented in the process of moving house, how shameful). I just love the magic in coming back home after a long day at school and breathing in the air of a patiently slow cooked stew in the kitchen. Whatever you put inside – Leftover cuts of tough meat, about to expire root vegetables, uncoordinated dashes of random seasoning – It seems like a slow cooker makes anything taste magical! And of course, at its economical best too.
Presenting to you… Slow Cooker Chicken Stew!
Made this pot of steaming goodness for my housemates of 4 (excluding one who’s nobly vegetarian and cooler than the rest of us). Guess what went into a 6.5litre slow cooker pot? 16 chicken thighs, 4 large flat white mushrooms, 4 carrots, 1 swede, 1 can of garden peas, 2 onions, 1 bunch of leek, 1 turnip, and a dash of herbs. No salt, no sugar, no seasoning at all. All of them then spend 6 hours in the crocker pot and becomes a wholesome dinner for the household at the end of the evening. Now now, what’s there not to love about slow cooked food?
