Nope, this is not from that popular burger chain. This is my take on the classic bacon cheeseburger – Bak Kwa Burger!
Bak Kwa is basically pork slices moulded out of pork mince or strips, barbecued over a charcoal fire. It’s almost similar to a jerky! Seasoned with sugar, spice and
everything nice soy sauce, it is savoury with a hint of sweetness.
Bak kwa tastes great with cheese – cheddar in this case. We topped the bak kwa slices with grated cheese and toasted it under the broiler/grill. The gooey-ness of the cheese was a pleasant contrast to the harder and drier bak kwa, while its saltiness complemented the barbecued sweetness.
The patty in this burger was a pre-formed patty from a supermarket. It was seared followed by a trip to the grill with medium-low heat to ensure that the insides remained moist.
Everything was then stacked together high and proud. Everything included the bak kwa, patty, sautéed onions, lettuce, dijon mustard, and not to forget, the buns. The Bak Kwa made this a Burger fit for a King. I suppose you can never go wrong with Bak Kwa.
